Many thanks to all the HSA members who’ve been working so hard over the summer and already this school year to make 2016-2017 a fun and enriching year for our kids and community! We’ll be sharing reminders and news as we can – here’s what’s coming up soon:
BOX TOPS – now’s the time to start getting those Box Tops for Education trimmed and ready to go! Don’t forget to check out the Box Tops for Education site too – they’ll send coupons and information on earning even more rewards for Demarest. Our new Committee Chairs will be setting up this year’s collection contests soon, and will be asking for volunteers to help gather and count throughout the school year. If you can spare a little time in the evening, bundling bundle box tops is an easy way to help the school.
READATHON – Our third readathon starts on Monday! This year we’re only asking our K-3 classes to participate – and all they have to do is gather sponsors, log their reading minutes, and collect their pledges. Everyone who participates is entered into prize raffles, and students don’t need to raise money to win. We’ll announce the winners in mid-October.
LUNCH MONEY – Remember to only send money (cash or check made out to Bloomfield Board of Education) to school in an envelope labeled with your student’s name, teacher and grade, or you can pay online here. Hot lunch is $2.75 per entree, or $13.75 per week. If you need to apply for the Free or Reduced Cost Lunch and Breakfast Program, head over to the District website and look in the bottom left for the link to the 2016-2017 Online Application, which is available in English and Spanish. If you need help filling out the form, contact the school.
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT – Thursday, September 22 is Demarest’s Back to School Night. It starts at 7pm in the gym, and after the presentation school-wide information you’ll be sent to your kids’ classrooms. This event is for adults only – please make arrangements for your kids to stay home. If you haven’t joined the HSA yet, we’ll be collecting enrollment forms and dues in the main hall; we’ll also be sharing information on the many volunteer opportunities with the HSA, and how you can sign up to help out.
PICTURE DAY – Flyers will be coming out soon about Picture Day, which is Thursday, September 29.
